In 2011, the architecture technology of the underground dwellings was listed as one of the National intangible Cultural heritage.

These underground houses, together with the courtyard in Beijing, Tulou or the Hakka earth buildings in East China's Fujian province, and cave buildings in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, are named as "four spectacle" in folk dwellings.
