Is cloning a good idea?

I have no objections to developing cloning techniques for both animals, including humans, and plants. This is all part of humanity's mastery of life. Science can make us more comfortable and prosperous.

One element of cloning, that of animal muscle and fat cells, may spare animals from slaughter for food. Simply grow those cells in the appropriate culture, adding the flavors of the right grazing material, vitamins and minerals, and you produce "filet mignon" without slaughtering a single cow. The opposition to cloning is a kind of knee-jerk, primitive response by people who think we should leave all such matters to a mythical "God". Those days are ending.
