Some areas in the region south of the Yangtze River have experienced 20 days of high temperatures this year-over 10 days more than last year. It said the highest temperature in July reached records in 22 counties in Sichuan, Jilin and Liaoning provinces and in Chongqing.

China is just one of the countries in the northern hemisphere suffering from scorching temperatures. Since July, the temperatures in most regions around the globe have been higher than average: Asia, Europe and North America have also been stricken by heat, the statement said.
