Chengdu to host Cybersecurity Week in September

China's fifth annual Cybersecurity Week, an activity aimed at raising awareness of online threats and internet safety, will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan province, from Sept 17 to 23, it was announced on Wednesday.

The activity is organized by authorities including the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education. Previous years it has been held in Beijing, Shanghai and Hubei province.

As part of the 2018 activity, Chengdu will host a cybersecurity expo for tech enterprises to showcase advanced security products and services as well as lectures by industry experts and engineers.

There will be a summit on cybersecurity technology and nine forums, including on big data protection, on Sept 17 and 18.

People who have contributed to China's cybersecurity protection, such as teachers and engineers, will also be awarded.

"We hope citizens can gain more knowledge on cybersecurity and related polices through the activity as well as see Sichuan's achievements in internet development and cybersecurity protection," said Tian Rong, head of publicity for the Sichuan government.
