Nigeria says committed to implementation of 2018 FOCAC initiatives

ABUJA - The Nigerian government on Monday said it is committed to the implementation of the eight new initiatives raised at the 2018 summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing last month.

The government gave the assurance when Chen Xiaodong, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China met with Nigeria's Minister of State Foreign Affairs Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim in Abuja.

Expressing Nigeria's commitment toward implementing those initiatives, Abba Ibrahim said they were geared toward the ongoing government drive in the diversification of the economy.

She also commended the Chinese government for sending a delegation to Nigeria to follow up on the discussions made at the FOCAC, in ensuring the implementation of the consensus reached during the summit.

Chen said his visit to Nigeria aims to ensure the materialization of the outcome of the summit pertaining to Nigeria.

"And, (we) look forward to pushing through the in-depth growth of China-Nigeria strategic partnership and to push forward China-Africa cooperation in general," Chen said.

The eight new initiatives have included industrial promotion, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, and green development, among others.
