Guangxi farmer carves smiling faces

A farmer from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has turned pieces of wood into vivid smiling faces. Zhang Aolin, from a remote village in Mochuan township, Xing'an county of Guangxi, is 44 years old. He became obsessed with carving at the end of 2016, though he'd never actually learned the skill.

Using pictures from his mobile phone or television, he began to work. Now he has created more than 30 smiling women's faces from wood during the farming off-season. The wood he uses is collected from the nearby mountain and he made the knife himself with discarded rebar. "By carving smiling faces, I feel happy during the tiring farming life, and I hope these carvings can also bring happiness to villagers," Zhang said.
