China, Kenya discuss strengthening business relations

Zhang was echoed by Stephen Odua, director of Private Sector Development in the Ministry of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives. On behalf of the principal secretary of the ministry Betty Maina, Odua said the government of Kenya further commits to support investors from China, including Zhejiang province, to establish their investments in Kenya.

Odua told the Chinese visitors that Kenya is one of the best investment destinations because Kenyan products enjoys preferential market access at the East Africa Community (EAC), Common Market for East and South Africa (COMESA), Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA-US Market), European Union (EU) and Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

"What's more, Kenya has continued to improve the ease of doing business and in last Year's World Bank rankings, Kenya was among the best reforming economies, having jumped from position 80 to position 61 in the 2019 report," added the official.

To provide more convenient services to both Zhejiang and Kenya business person, CCPIT Zhejiang Committee, joined by China Chamber of International Commerce Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, set up a liaison office in Nairobi, and appointed Wang Chong, chairman of Zhejiang Business Association Kenya, as the chief representative.

Wang is from Zhejiang and is the general manager of Transsion East Africa, which is the largest smartphone company by sales in Africa.
