"Guangdong has taken the lead in the mainland in busting criminal gangs, detaining suspected gang members and investigating illegal assets of local criminal gangs," he said.

Qian Bo, deputy director of the bureau, said Guangdong police is now posting a reward of 2 million yuan ($294,000) for the whereabouts and capture of 20 key criminal gang members who are on the run.

"Authorities will offer a reward of at least 100,000 yuan for the information that leads to the capture of a key gang member," he added.

Police in Dongguan, a Pearl River Delta city, detained a total of 58 suspects, including the suspected gang head surnamed Xie, after busting a violent gang, which used force to monopolize local aquatic product market, in a special operation launched on October 30.
