An ancient-style writing ceremony was held at Confucius Temple at Jianshui county, Yunnan province, on Jan 17. Dozens of children in hanfu, a traditional Chinese costume, attended the event, where an old teacher placed a red dot on their foreheads, which is called opening the wisdom eye. In ancient China, parents took children to the Confucian ceremony to show respect to the teacher and learn how to write the Chinese character "ren" (people) with a Chinese brush, before the first school session.
