Guangdong resident Ms Liu on Saturday had the opportunity to spend one million yuan ($148,310) in one minute on Taobao, China's leading online shopping platform.

It was part of a promotion run by Taobao to mark Spring Festival, with the company saying it would pay for 10,000 users' online shopping carts from Feb 1-4, and select one lucky winner each day to spend one million yuan, on them, in a minute.

At 9 pm on Feb 1 Ms Liu set out from her hometown in Huizhou, Guangdong province to arrive at Alibaba's headquarter in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province at 7:30 am on Feb 2.

She said she was too excited to sleep the night before, and talked with her husband on how to spend the money.

Based on event rules the 1 million yuan had to be divided into a maximum of ten payments of 100,000 yuan each. Ms Liu completed six orders, spending nearly 580,000 yuan.

Her purchases included six iPhoneXes, one MacBook, one Apple Watch, a Montblanc watch, a Longines, watch, two Leica cameras and some gold.
