According to former machinist Zhang, the device can help its wearer carry parcels of up to 50 kilograms while climbing stairs – and has passed tests proving as much.

"It looks rough, but could be of great help," said Zhang, who is based in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province.

The 28-year-old was first inspired to create a wooden device to help deliverymen in 2016, and he finished most of the work on his current prototype in 2017.

While he has invested considerable savings and time to his invention, he admitted it still requires a little extra work to make it of real value to China's millions of deliverymen.
