Beijing police said they have expanded international cooperation in law enforcement over the past few years, in a move to effectively ensure the social stability of the city.

Since last year, the capital's police have solved 40 cases under the transnational cooperation on law enforcement, as well as helped deal with more than 540 requests of judicial assistance from overseas, according to a statement provided by the Public Security Bureau on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, communications on public security affairs also have been improved in recent years, such as those with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, the statement said.

For example, an international public security conference aimed at sharing experiences related to sport events and improving cooperation between police officers at home and abroad was held in Beijing last year.

A major topic during the two-day conference was how to safeguard the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Law enforcement representatives from nations that have hosted big sports events since 2001 - especially the Winter Olympics and the World Cup, such as Canada, South Korea and France - attended the meeting and shared their experiences.

The bureau said it would further promote such cooperation and communication to offer better security services for residents.
