Ex-energy head charged with bribery

Nur Bekri, former head of the National Energy Administration, has been charged with bribery by the Shenyang People's Procuratorate in Liaoning province, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Tuesday.

It said the case will be heard at Shenyang Intermediate People's Court.

According to the indictment, Nur Bekri took advantage of his position to benefit others with promotions and exploitation of mineral resources, and he accepted huge bribes either paid in cash or property.

Between 1998 and 2018, he mainly served as deputy Party chief of Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, as mayor of Urumqi, as chairman of the region, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission and head of the National Energy Administration.

In September, Nur Bekri was placed under investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission for "serious violations of Party discipline and laws".

In March, he was expelled from the Party and removed from public office.
