An interactive exhibition featuring toys and games opens at the Overseas Chinese History Museum of China in Beijing on Friday.

The exhibits include tangram, a ring puzzle and sliding blocks, and also hopscotch, rubber band skipping and slingshots, as well as manual dexterity games like Jacks and Cat's Cradle.

Some pupils' textbooks donated by Chen Laihua, a 79-year-old overseas Chinese who was born and lives in Singapore, are also on display.

"Toys and games epitomize human culture and society and are closely related to daily life," Qi Degui, the deputy director of the museum, said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

After the ceremony, a group of pupils were invited to bring their toys and join the games, some of which have been passed down for generations.

The exhibition runs through Sept 1.
