Beijing is changing itself into not only a political and cultural center but also the country's hub of international exchanges and scientific innovations. And the historic depth and dynamics of metropolitan life have inspired Beijing-based artists to create a dynamic art scene.

An exhibition now on at the National Art Museum of China, and which runs through June 9, features around 100 paintings by Beijing-based artists which hail cultural traditions and modern developments.

The show also marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China this year.

The bulk of paintings on show were done by artists from Beijing Fine Art Academy or loaned from its collection.
