HK chief executive apologizes for extradition bill controversy

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on Tuesday apologized, in person, to the public for the social conflicts caused by the government's proposed amendments to the city's extradition laws.

After two mass protests against the extradition bill in the past two weeks, Lam said she was also saddened for those injured in the conflicts, including participants, police officers and reporters.

For the deficiencies in the work of the special administrative region government over the amendment exercise, Lam said she personally has to "shoulder much of the responsibility" and offered her "most sincere apology" to all the people of Hong Kong.
