2019 is the 40th year since the British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities, established its office in China. During the past four decades, the British Council has initiated and organized a fair number of cultural and educational exchange programs between China and the UK. How have these programs helped enhance mutual understanding between the two countries?

Director of the British Council China Carma Elliot, whose first encounter with China dates back over 30 years ago when she came to study at Fudan University in Shanghai, talks to China Daily website and shares her observations about China's societal changes over the last few decades, the achievements of China-UK cultural exchange activities, and her love for Chinese culture.
