More than 150 children around China who are suffering from rare and chronic diseases gathered for a summer camp in Shanghai which started on Wednesday.

Organized by the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund with the support of Takeda China, the two-day camp aims to help these individuals and their families learn more about scientific disease management.

This is the third consecutive year that the summer camp has been held. This year’s edition includes more participants and will touch on a wider range of diseases, including rare diseases like hemophilia, lysosomal storage diseases and hereditary angioedema.

The summer camp includes sports competitions to help promote the concept of healthy living through exercise. There are also bioscience workshops to help the children learn more about genes, chromosome and genetics so that they can better understand disease management. Psychologists will also be providing counseling sessions to equip parents with the necessary skills to help their children.
