A series of paintings of Chongqing landmarks done in the style of impressionist Vincent van Gogh have gone viral online recently.

Ren Li, 30, a designer from the southwestern metropolis, is a fan of the Dutch painter who became famous for his bold, dramatic brush strokes.

The mountainous city surrounded by the Yangtze and Jialing rivers boasts a unique three-dimensional landscape which has become a hot travel destination in recent years.

"I thought it would be interesting to paint my hometown with his unique style," she said.

She began to paint the local landmarks in May and has finished eight works, which feature the famous Liziba Station where a subway line passes through a building, the Yangtze River Cableway, Hongya Cave, a local hotpot restaurant and the Liberation Monument.
