Costco to open first China outlet in Shanghai

US retailer Costco will open its first China warehouse in Shanghai on Aug 27.

According to employees of the Shanghai branch, some of the brand's popular products will cost the same as it does at its other global warehouses.

In addition to its usual range of products, Costco Shanghai will be offering free optometry and hearing tests, tire inflation and repair services. Its Shanghai location has 1,200 indoor and outdoor parking spaces.

Costco's global membership system requires customers to first apply for a membership card before shopping. Members can enjoy benefits such as unconditional goods return and membership fee refunds.

The membership at the Shanghai store is priced at 299 yuan ($42.40), and those who apply before Aug 26 will receive a 100-yuan discount. Applications canbe filed at the store's card center at 388 Lianyou Road, Minhang District or through Costco's official website and WeChat public account.
