An exhibition on Chinese seal carving to mark the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China kicked off at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing recently.

The exhibition, which is part of the ongoing Beijing Design Week, features more than 400 seals marking key events since 1949, including the founding of New China, the testing of the country's first atomic bomb and the start of the production of the car Hongqi.

According to Li Danyang, the general manager of the Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group, one of the organizers of the Beijing Design Week, the works exhibited were carved by professionals, students and company employees.

Li said: "The Chinese characters are the carriers of the civilization, and protecting them is a way to promote the civilization. This exhibition can also help young people learn more about the beauty of Chinese characters."

The exhibition runs until Oct 10.
