'My People, My Country' grosses 1.55 mln USD in North America

LOS ANGELES -- "My People, My Country," a Chinese film made in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), grossed more than 1.55 million U.S. dollars in North America since its premiere on Sept. 30.

The film has brought in 1,553,517 dollars in North American during its first week of release, according to box office figures released by its distributer, CMC Pictures on Monday. It earned 876,001 dollars here in its Friday-Sunday debut weekend, ranking 11th at the North American box office.

Featuring seven short stories and seven directors led by Chen Kaige, the anthology film draws on important historical moments since the founding of the PRC in 1949, aiming to awaken the shared memories of Chinese people around the world.

CMC CEO Su Jia told Xinhua that the film emphasizes personal experiences and spirit of ordinary Chinese people, showcasing the Chinese culture and spirit.

"Overseas Chinese flocked into theaters to watch this film with their family members," said Su. "Many of them are second-generation or third-generation immigrants born in the United States or Canada."

"My People, My Country" has grossed a total of more than 2.2 billion yuan (about 308 million dollars) on the Chinese mainland over the past eight days, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
