China pilots national plan for youth development at county level

Xinhua | Updated: 2019-10-23 15:19

BEIJING -- China began piloting the national plan for medium- and long-term development of young people in counties and county-level cities and districts, the China Youth Daily reported Wednesday.

The pilot program aims to establish a policy system to support youth development and gain experience for carrying out the plan nationwide, said the newspaper, quoting a statement from a meeting for the program held Tuesday by the Communist Youth League of China in East China's Zhejiang Province.

The pilots are required to formulate local plans for youth development based on local conditions, establish a joint meeting mechanism for youth-related work, and roll out policies in response to young people's actual demands.

Local authorities will also adopt supportive measures, conduct surveys on young people and establish a proper evaluation of policies targeting young people in these pilots.

China introduced a national plan (2016-2025) for medium- and long-term development of young people in April 2017.

The pilots will be carried out in counties and county-level regions in Shanghai and provinces like Hebei, Zhejiang, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong and Sichuan.
