Top 10 Chinese regions for average consumption spending

Average consumption spending in Shanghai and Beijing was over 30,000 yuan for the first three quarters of this year, taking first two spots among China's 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The national per-capita consumption spending of households stood at 15,464 yuan, up 8.3 percent year-on-year, an inflation-adjusted growth of 5.7 percent. Among them, spending on services expanded 10.2 percent.

Shanghai's average disposable income also took the No 1 spot in the same period, reaching 52,292 yuan, followed by Beijing at 50,541 yuan.

Moreover, the average disposable income in three provinces and one municipality — Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Tianjin — broke through 30,000 yuan in the first three quarters of this year.

The national resident disposable income was 22,882 yuan, an increase of 8.8 percent year-on-year or an inflation-adjusted growth of 6.1 percent, the NBS said.

Chinese people's average spending on food, alcohol and tobacco is 4,310 yuan, accounting for the largest proportion of the consumption structure. Second largest is housing, with a figure of 3,607 yuan.

Consumer spending on education, culture and entertainment shows the fastest increase, growing by 13.5 percent to 1,766 yuan per capita.

Data shows consumption continues to be the mainstay driving up demand in the country, with final consumption contributing 60.5 percent to economic growth in the first nine months.
