Beijing to ring in Chinese Lunar New Year with folk songs

The Beijing Spring Musicale, an annual concert that serves as part of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, is set for the evening of Xiaonian Festival, Jan 17, 2020, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The musical performance will feature popular folk songs of various ethnic groups in China by renowned singers.

Some local operas and folk songs, which have been inscribed on the list of intangible cultural heritage, will also be performed.

Celebrated on the 23rd day of the last month of the Chinese lunar calendar, Xiaonian is a festival marking the start of the countdown to Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan 25, 2020.
