Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his family took a pre-Christmas trip to Hawaii.

Morrison told a radio show that the trip had been planned as a surprise to his young daughters to replace leave originally scheduled for January that he had canceled because of work.

His Hawaiian vacation drew sharp criticism as the wildfire crisis in the country deepened.
