MOSCOW - China has set an "outstanding example" for the whole world, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Russia Dmitry Novikov has said.

"In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, China has shown the effectiveness of its socio-economic system. The example of China is useful for all countries," Novikov told Xinhua in a recent interview ahead of the 99th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 1.

"The creation of the CPC in 1921 was an event of great importance. Its ideas became a life-giving force, which made it possible to do away with foreign oppression and move towards socialism," he recalled.

Since its inception, the CPC has viewed the building of communism as its highest ideal and ultimate goal, he noted, adding that its fidelity to the beliefs, creative development and responsiveness to global changes have yielded incredible results.

"Modern China is the leader in the global economy. Step by step, it rises to the heights of scientific and technological development," said the Russian communist.

He voiced confidence that the CPC will overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the obstruction from external forces, and eventually achieve its goal of winning the battle against poverty and finishing building a moderately prosperous society in all respects in 2020.

Recalling the CPC has taken comprehensive and zero-tolerance policies to fight corruption since its 18th National Congress in 2012, Novikov said "it is important that the very conditions leading to corruption are destroyed. This is facilitated by strict internal party management, steady discipline, and a stern struggle against formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance."

As the coronavirus pandemic has become a "moment of truth," which reflects both the governance capability of countries and their attitude toward people, Novikov is impressed by the Chinese government's response to the crisis.

Noting that Chinese authorities have facilitated the quarantine of a great number of citizens, ensured the production of necessities, and solved many other questions when tackling the pandemic, Novikov said that "the main reason for the success is the effectiveness of China's social, economic and political systems."

"The people of China showed massive heroism ... But an army needs not only brave soldiers but also wise commanders to win. The CPC has played a key role," he stressed.

Novikov praised the measures taken by the Chinese government amid the health crisis to support employment, improve people's livelihood, ensure food and energy security, maintain the stability of the financial system, trade as well as internal and external investments, expand domestic demand and deepen reforms.

As for the idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Russian official said the need of such an idea is long overdue.

"Against the backdrop of growing global threats, the idea provides a chance for humanity as it envisages a model of relations, where the interests of all countries and peoples are taken into account," he said.

In his view, China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) offers an example of mutual respect and cooperation.

Dozens of participating countries, with the support of China, are implementing projects under the BRI framework in the fields of construction, modernization of transport infrastructure and industrial development, he said.

"By its own example, the country proves the possibility of a fairer, more developed and safer world," Novikov concluded.
