Daylily transforms life of farmers in Ningxia

Harvest season for daylily has turned the Yanchi county in Ningxia Hui autonomous region into a golden sea. As the county integrates daylily industry into its feature, a whole industrial chain for daylily, a plant with medicinal value, has emerged.

Based on drip irrigation technology, the Yanchi county has expanded the cultivated area of daylily into 4,860 hectares, reaching an annual output value of 250 million yuan ($36.2 million).

Over 3,000 households of the county have seen their annual income grow more than 20,000 yuan by planting daylily. Around 15,000 people are employed during the 40-day picking period each year, providing extra jobs to local farmers.
