China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism will launch a campaign to curb waste of food, said an official with the ministry.

The ministry is formulating and revising guidelines for the hospitality industry and tourist attractions to include provisions against wasting food, according to the official.

The ministry called for efforts to guide scenic spots, hotels and restaurants, among others, to fulfill their social responsibilities, strengthen self-discipline, and advocate civilized tourism.

Various activities will be carried out to ramp up publicity and awareness on the traditional virtue of thrift among the people, said the official.
