Northwestern destinations stand out in vacationers' searches
Chinese vacationers are busy making plans for the upcoming National Day holiday.
The early September search for travel products involving areas in Northwest China surged 475 percent month-on-month, the Shanghai-based online travel agency Trip.com reports.
The Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions, as well as Qinghai and Gansu provinces, topped the search list and were especially favored by tourists from Shanghai and Guangdong province.
Deserts, camel riding, the Danxia landform and historical sites along the Silk Road are among the biggest draws points for northwestern China travelers, according to the travel agency.
Most travelers are looking at five-day cross-provincial trips to those places.
Trip.com predicts the 8-day National Day holiday will see an explosion of repressed tourism demand built up over the past nine months.
