Rime ice spectacle appears in Heilongjiang

As temperatures dropped below -20 C recently in Xunke county, Heilongjiang province, the marvelous natural scenery of rime appeared along the Kurbin River in the county.

The crystalline spectacle attracted many residents and tourists.

The heat coming from the process of generating power at a hydropower station on the river prevents the river from freezing even on cold winter days. The rime ice is formed when water vapor from the river meets the cold air.
