Taoxichuan in Jingdezhen of Jiangxi province was once home to ceramic factories. Now the former factory compound is being transformed into a creativity hub.

At a recent forum held in Taoxichuan, people with expertise in different fields shared their views on how to develop Taoxichuan and other culture and creativity compounds across the country in a sustainable way.

The Fifth Art Industrial Parks Development Forum, held in late December, was attended by governmental officials, people engaging in creative industries, artists and professors of art and design.

A highlight at the forum was discussing how the further development of Taoxichuan can breathe new life into centuries-old ceramic arts — for example, turning into a working and residence compound for young artists and students.

People at the forum also shared ways to change the look of old industrial compounds, such as opening museums, establishing art awards, supporting local artisans and developing education programs to reach out to local communities.
