The Tibet autonomous region will launch its major annual political events this week — the fourth session of the 11th Tibet Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Tuesday and the fourth plenary session of the Standing Committee of the 11th Regional People's Congress of Tibet on Wednesday.

Lin Qingzhi, deputy secretary of the Standing Committee, Tibet's top legislative body, said the coming session will cap the work of the region during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period. Officials will discuss development plans for the coming five years, together with delegations from all levels of society in the region.

"We will make sure to have a good start for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) because it has a special and significant meaning for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the region's 70th anniversary since peaceful liberation, Lin said.

Wu Yongxiang, deputy secretary of the Tibet Regional Committee of the CPPCC, the region's political consultative body, said the fourth session of the 11th Tibet Committee of the CPPCC will be held between Jan 19 and 23 in Lhasa, the capital, and will share the achievements and experiences of the region since the last session. It will also lay out new plans and tasks for the new year.
