Shanghai registered 1.7 percent of GDP growth in 2020 and has set a target of achieving more than 6 percent for 2021, said Mayor Gong Zheng at the annual session of the municipal people’s congress on Sunday.

"Although hampered by COVID-19 and global economic recession, Shanghai has overcome difficulties and taken concrete measures to push the economy back on track from a 6.7 percent fall in the first quarter," Gong said in his municipal government work report.

The key economic targets for 2021 have been set in the report, with the GDP growth to be over 6 percent, the unemployment rate to be within 5 percent, and the consumer price index to be around 2.5 percent.
