Number of short-video users reaches 873m in China

China's number of online short-video users reached 873 million in 2020, according to a report by National Copyright Administration released on Tuesday.

The country's mobile netizens spend more than a quarter of their daily time using short-video applications, the China Network Copyright Industry Development Report 2020 said.

Short video has become the "third language" on mobile internet after image with text and audio, the report said.

The market scale of China's network copyright industry exceeded 1 trillion yuan ($156.67 billion) for the first time in 2020, according to the report.

The total number of netizens in China hit 989 million by the end of 2020, up from 85.4 million over March 2020, with an internet penetration rate of 70.4 percent, according to a report by the China Internet Network Information Center.
