China's central bank started to issue a set of commemorative coins for the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from Monday, and all the commemorative coins are the nation's legal tenders, according to central bank officials.

Each set includes three 8-gram gold commemorative coins, five silver coins and one two-color copper alloy coin. The maximum issuance amount is from 10,000 to 200,000 for different coins, according to the People's Bank of China, the central bank, which held a media conference on Monday.

The special commemorative coins are designed for the centenary of the CPC, with the highest specification and the largest number of various types in a set, compared with previously issued coins of similar commemorative themes, said Fan Yifei, vice-governor of the PBOC.

The two-color copper alloy coin has a par value of 10 yuan. Chinese residents can book for the exchange online or offline from Aug 31 to Sept 4, in two separate batches. The PBOC assigned eight commercial banks to issue the copper alloy commemorative coins, according to Luo Rui, head of the Currency, Gold and Silver Bureau, PBOC.
