To cultivate a dog's ability to hunt and react, as well as control their bite force, all dogs in the detachment have to complete the fetching courses daily.

Li and his colleagues had to get creative to conduct obstacle courses for their animals to overcome the fear of crossing barriers. They helped the dogs develop leg strength and fine-tuned their emergency response ability.

"We trained them to improve their courage by challenging them in difficult sessions to complete searching and tracking tasks, including battlefield situations," Li said.

China has a history of police dog training since the 1920s. A trained dog can work for about eight to 12 years.
