BEIJING -- China on Friday announced measures to reform the country's college entrance exams for art students.

Arts programs that are in low demand or substandard in quality will scale back enrollment or simply stop the enrollment to optimize the overall configuration of art majors, according to a document released by the Ministry of Education.

By 2024, each provincial-level region will have introduced unified exams corresponding to specific areas of focus for art program applicants, said the ministry.

Enrollment policy will be improved, with an emphasis on the requirement of art disciplines and students' academic performance, according to the document.

The reform kicks start in 2021, said the ministry.
