A batch of vehicles manufactured by GAC Motor, a Chinese car maker focusing on development of domestically made vehicles, began their overseas journey to Mexico on Sunday from Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.

The vehicles will be sold in Mexico under the Dodge brand, following an early cooperation agreement between GAC Motor and Stellantis.

"It is a new way for us to ship our vehicles to the overseas market by cooperating with international automobile giants, in which we manufacture the vehicles with high quality and technology while using international brands," said Zeng Hebin, general manager of GAC Motor.

Stellantis, a leading global automaker and provider of innovative mobility solutions, has a group of big brands including Maserati, Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat and Dodge.

"Exporting our vehicles to Mexico represents GAC Motor's strong capabilities in technology, safety, performance and quality," Zeng said.

After showcasing its projects at a number of big international automobile exhibitions since 2013, GAC Motor has established a global sales and service network covering 26 countries and regions.

"It is a milestone in our expansion in the international market. We will deepen cooperation with overseas partners to conduct more strategic cooperation in business expansion internationally," Zeng said.

Mexico, with annual sales of 1.3 million vehicles and a population of more than 100 million, is a huge export destination for GAC Motor.

GAC Motor's parent company, GAC Group, a leading automobile maker based in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, realized sales revenue of more than 395 billion yuan ($60.92 billion) in 2020, selling over 2 million units.

"We will work closely with Stellantis to jointly explore the overseas market in the future, introducing more domestically made vehicles with high quality to overseas users," Zeng said.
