It is the fourth high-speed rail line in the province. Together with the previous ones — Harbin-Qiqihar, Harbin-Mudanjiang and Harbin-Jiamusi — the rail network is expected to accelerate regional economic development, meet demand for a better travel experience and provide support for the vitalization of Northeast China, the railway company said.

Wu Meixian, 26, a police officer in Qitaihe, bought a ticket via the internet for the first train on Saturday.

"My home is in Mudanjiang and I have to travel between the two cities twice every week," she said. "Before the line opened, I had to spend around three hours driving between the two cites. Now it only takes me one hour to take the train, which is safer and more comfortable."
