Sign language

In January 2014, Xi "spoke" with a hearing-impaired girl with sign language when visiting disabled children in a welfare home in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Xi learned how to say "good" (thumbs-up) and "thanks" (bending the thumb) from Wang Yani at her dormitory in the welfare home. Xi encouraged her to study hard and wished her success in studies.

Wang, born in 1999, was adopted by the children's welfare home in 2000.  Wang said she aspires to become a special education teacher to help more hearing-impaired children.
