Huawei Technologies Co said 5.5G wireless technology, an evolution of 5G technology, will deepen the digital and intelligent transformation with ubiquitous 10 Gbps experience and the capability to have 100 billion connections such as smartphones and other devices.

Gan Bin, vice president and chief marketing officer of Huawei's wireless solution, said at the company's annual global analyst summit in Shenzhen, Guangdong province on Wednesday that 5G has opened the door to digitalization and intelligence, and 5.5G will further boost digitalization and intelligence.

To realize the converged interaction between the digital and physical worlds, mobile networks need to provide ubiquitous 10 Gbps experience while keeping the latency within milliseconds, Huawei said, adding that the vision for a digital, intelligent world requires an information infrastructure that supports 100 billion connections, thereby enabling the digital twin and intelligent upgrades of all industries.

This means that the industry must build a continuous 10 Gbps experience layer on top of the 5G Gbps foundation network. To ensure 100 billion connections, new capabilities, such as integrated communication and sensing and a passive internet of things, must be overlaid onto the foundation network on demand, according to Huawei.

Gan said together with industry partners, Huawei will explore technologies such as ultra-high bandwidth, uplink spectrum reconstruction, and native intelligence to help operators build 5.5G networks and upgrade network capabilities.

Such exploration will help deepen the development of industrial applications such as connected vehicles, virtual reality and augmented reality, Huawei said.
