Shanghai’s logistics sector edges toward normalcy

The daily average parcel collection and delivery volume in Shanghai has reached more than 1 million, one-sixth the city's normal level, an official with the Shanghai Postal Administration said on Thursday.

Distribution centers of 16 out of the 21 postal and express delivery enterprises in the city's business resumption whitelist have resumed operations, said Yu Hongwei, deputy director of the administration.

The 21 enterprises on the whitelist released on Sunday include China Post, SF Express, Cainiao, JD Logistics, as well as UPS and FedEx.

Yu said more than 15,000 electronic road permits for couriers have already been issued, and the second whitelist of postal and express delivery enterprises will soon be released.

In addition to carrying out strict epidemic prevention measures on couriers and vehicles, rigorous measures have also been taken to disinfect parcels entering and leaving Shanghai.

Shanghai registered 144 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,305 asymptomatic infections on Wednesday. Two asymptomatic infections were found when screening residents in precautionary zones. The other new infections were discovered within quarantine and lockdown areas.

"With the joint efforts of all parties, we've seen the daily tally of new infections in the city decline, and the risk of the virus' spread in society has come under control," said Zhao Dandan, deputy director of the Shanghai Health Commission.

"But we are aware that victory against the outbreak has yet to be secured, and strict epidemic control measures must still be implemented in key risk areas, such as dilapidated neighborhoods and villages," he added.
