University punishes teachers over misconduct

Nankai University in Tianjin said on Friday it has investigated and punished three teachers for online misconduct.

Li Wentao, an associate researcher, was fired and his teaching qualifications revoked for having an improper relationship with a woman.

"Li seriously violated teachers' ethics," said the university in a notice released by on its Weibo account, a Twitter-like platform.

Chen Taisuo, an instructor, was given the punishment of demerit recording. He was also disqualified from promotion and evaluations for professional titles or any award.

According to the notice, Chen had violated teaching disciplines, obtained campus entrance cards with violations, and provided a false age.

Yin Canghai, a professor, received an official admonishing conversation because he had used inappropriate words in doctoral admissions that caused an adverse effect. He also had lax management for the university's research center on art and aesthetics.

The notice also mentioned that issues related with laws or lawsuits are being handled in accordance with the procedures prescribed by national laws and regulations.

"The university will take this as a lesson and improve teachers' ethics and conduct," the notice said.

The three teachers were reported earlier by three female Weibo users with their real names.
