JINAN -- The Baotu Spring, a famous scenic spot in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, saw its water table exceed 30 meters on Tuesday to the highest level during the same period since it started gushing again in 2003, according to local authorities.

The spring's water table reached 30.13 meters on Tuesday, the urban and rural water affairs bureau of Jinan said.

The Baotu Spring began to see a seasonal hiatus in 1971 and once experienced a hiatus lasting 926 days. However, it started gushing on Sept. 6, 2003, after a 548-day hiatus, and since then it has gushed continuously for 19 years.

Since this year's flood season began, the spring's water table has been on the rise. In recent years, the local government has strived to boost the spring with water replenishment and improve the ecological environment in the spring's supply area.

Dubbed "the city of a thousand springs," Jinan boasts more than 1,000 natural springs. The Baotu Spring is considered the most famous of them all.
