CPC leadership key factor in nation's development, foreign experts say

The visionary leadership of the Communist Party of China has been central to China's "incredible" achievements, foreign experts say in the wake of the 20th CPC National Congress.

Harish Chandra Shah, president of the Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, said China has logged incredible achievements over the past decades, and he credits the CPC's leadership with being the most important factor on the country's road to prosperity, especially over the past five years.

"The CPC is a party that has strong and visionary leadership and has led China onto the right track of development. It has also been dedicated to building an international community with a shared future," he told China Daily.

Shah is among the international observers who have been assessing the outcomes of the 20th CPC National Congress, which concluded in Beijing last month.

He was also among the first batch of foreigners to study in China in the late 1970s, when China launched its reform and opening-up policy. He went to Beijing in 1977 and learned Chinese for one year before spending six years at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, where he studied TCM internal medicine for four years and acupuncture for two years.

"I was so impressed by China's development over the past years. It's incredible," he said.

In addition, Shah, who is also the first TCM practitioner in Nepal, attributed China's prosperity over the past five years to a stable political and social environment and the hardworking spirit of the Chinese people.

Johanesa Rakotonirina, president of the Madagascar-China Friendship Association, said the CPC's leadership is the cornerstone of China's rapid growth.

"It's not an easy thing to modernize a country with 1.4 billion people. It's not just about sufficient food and clothes. Technology, security, healthcare … There are so many things the CPC needs to consider and coordinate. What the Party has done is unprecedented," said Rakotonirina.

'To its people'

"The Party is dedicated to its people and puts their interests first. That sets a good example worldwide."

Rakotonirina, like Shah, spent a number of years in the late 1970s and early 1980s studying in China. He was astonished by the huge changes that he saw in China when he last visited Beijing three years ago.

"China's growth has shocked the world. If you tell any foreigner who sees today's China what the country was like decades ago, he won't believe you," he said.

"But I see it. I visited China from time to time after graduation. I have seen China's path toward prosperity and modernization."

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Madagascar. China has been Madagascar's biggest trading partner and biggest source of imports since 2015. In 2020, the bilateral trade in goods reached $930 million, accounting for 18.1 percent of Madagascar's total foreign trade.

Rakotonirina said that, under the leadership of the CPC, cooperation between China and Madagascar has been strengthened over the past five years. Emerging from this cooperation was the country's largest stadium, which opened last year.

Madagascans really appreciate China's assistance in medicine and infrastructure, he said, adding that the bilateral ties will only get better under the guidance of the CPC.

James Kimonyo, Rwanda's ambassador to China, told China Daily that the people-centered approach is key to the CPC's success.

"If it is not about people, then it becomes difficult because even the economic policies that we develop are going to be superficial," the envoy said.

"It should be people-centered. Understand the issues, understand their skills and capabilities and build from there to be able to transform and change their lives."

Whatever you see that China has done is thanks to the vision and leadership of the CPC and, of course, the resilience and hard work of the people of this great nation, he added.
