Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, aims to build itself into a hub for global talent by 2035.

A guideline issued by the university on talent cultivation recently said that it will introduce a batch of top-notch overseas teachers and students to the university by 2025 to significantly improve its academic research capabilities and promote the country's self-reliance on high-level science and technology.

By 2030, the university will strive to build a talent pool befitting a world-class university and achieve a number of original, innovative research breakthroughs. It is expected to have a significant number of high-quality talents by 2035.

The guideline encourages teachers to conduct original, cutting-edge research on basic disciplines and core technologies to serve high-quality national development.

Attracting and nurturing talent are equally important to Tsinghua. It plans to provide tailor-made programs for postdoctoral researchers, who will have an opportunity to net teaching positions at the university.

The university has previously set a goal to become a world-class higher learning institution by 2030 and one of the top universities worldwide by 2050.

In the 2022-2023 Best Global University Rankings published recently by US News & World Report, Tsinghua's ranking rose three places to 23rd, making it the highest-ranked university in Asia. It is ranked 16th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 that was recently published by Times Higher Education magazine in the United Kingdom.
