China sanctions two US organizations, four individuals

The Foreign Ministry announced its countermeasures, effective Friday, against the Hudson Institute and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library as well as four individuals in charge of the organizations.

The two organizations provided platforms for and facilitated the separatist activities of Tsai Ing-wen, leader of the Taiwan region, during Tsai's recent "transit" through the United States, the ministry said on Friday.

The moves have seriously violated the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, and seriously undermined China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the ministry added.

The ministry asked organizations and individuals in China, including colleges and universities, to rigorously restrict their transactions, exchanges and cooperation with the two US organizations.

The four individuals targeted by the countermeasures are Sarah May Stern, chair of the board of trustees of the Hudson Institute, John P. Walters, president and CEO of the institute, John Heubusch, former executive director of the Reagan Foundation, and Joanne M. Drake, chief administrative officer of the foundation.

The four people's movable properties, real estates and all other assets in China will be frozen, the ministry said, banning organizations and individuals in China from having transactions or cooperation with them.

China will not issue visas to the four, whose entry to the country will be banned, the ministry added.
