The Music in the Summer Air (MISA) festival will take place from July 7-20 and feature 30 shows at three venues - the Jaguar Shanghai Symphony Hall, the outdoor Shanghai Urban Music Lawn and the TRI Space at the Blackstone Apartment, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra announced on Thursday.
This will be the 14th installment of the festival, an annual cross-genre event centered on classical music. Overseas artists such as the NY Phil Ensembles consisting of musicians from the New York Philharmonic, The Clarinet Trio Anthology led by Daniel Ottensamer from the Vienna Philharmonic (Wiener Philharmoniker), and I Musici, a 71-year-old music group from Italy, will be performing at the festival.
The theme of this year's festival is "Light in the Universe", which is also title of the opening concert that will be presented by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jin Yukuang on July 7. The program consists of Three-Body Fantasy by Fay Kueen Wang, Metacosmos by Anna Thorvaldsdottir, The Metaverse, the first movement from the Symphny No. 1 by Elliot Leung and excerpts from The Planets by Gustav Holst.
At the closing concert on Jul 20, renowned pianist Yin Chengzong will play his famous repertoire, the piano concerto The Yellow River, which was adapted by Yin himself from the cantata of the same title by Xian Xinghai.
