The Chinese-built Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway spans Ethiopia and Djibouti. Mainly hauling freight, it was the first modern electric railway on the African continent.

Since 2018, the railway has exported and transported goods from Ethiopia and other areas of East Africa. It has helped promote the prosperity and development of the regional economy.
